Born in 1955 in Changchun, Jilin, China, Sun Ge studied Chinese literature at Jilin University and is a professor at the Institute of Literature in the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Interested in the issue of East Asia from early on, she has conducted comparative research on the literatures and philosophies of China and Japan across the boundaries of academic disciplines and departments. Her fields of interest include modern Chinese literature, history of modern Japanese thought, and comparative cultural studies. A leading member of the Japan/China Intellectual Community forum together with Mizoguchi Yujo, she is one of the few Chinese intellectuals to take an interest in the issue of East Asia. Her major works include Seeking Errors(Chinese; 1998), Research on Chinese Classical Opera Performed Overseas(co-authorship; Chinese; 2000), What Does Asia Mean? (Chinese; 2001), and The Dilemma That Narrates Asia: Seeking an Intellectual Common Space(Japanese; 2002).
