Born in Tokyo, Japan, Kwon Jeongsaeng returned to Korea immediately after the Liberation (1945) from Japanese colonial rule. Working asthe bell ringer for a village in Iljik Township in Andong County, North Gyeongsang Province, he lived in a small earthen house.Befriending illness and poverty throughout his life, he wrote beautifully about the beauty of nature, life, and those who suffered becauseof their fragility. Kwon has left over 150 short and long stories for youngsters and children’s prose fiction and over 100 poems and songsfor young readers. His representative works include the picture book Doggy Poo, children’s novel Sister Mongsil (published by Changbi),and novel The Sky over Hanti Pass.
