Jung Mi-kyung embarked on a literary career with the selection of her play in the annual spring literary competition sponsored by the daily JoongAng Ilbo in 1987 and the publication of her short story “A Woman with Arsenic” in the quarterly Segye-ui Munhak (World Literature) in 2001. She authored short story collections including My Bloodstained Lover, He Gave Me Roses of the Balkans, My Son’s Lover, and The French-style Laundry (published by Changbi) and novels including La Vie en Rose, A Wonderland of Strange Sadness, The Stars of Africa, and The Singer Closes His Mouth. Jung received prizes including the Today’s Writer Award and the Yi Sang Literary Award.
