An Jae-seong was born in 1960 in Yong’in, Gyeonggi Province. He embarked on a literary career with the reception of the 2nd Jun Tae-il Literary Award for his novel The Strike in 1989. He has authored novels including The Gyeongseong Troika, Golden Ears, and To Yan’an and numerous biographies of modern and contemporary Korean figures including Yun Han-bong: The Last Fugitive from the May 18 Democratization Movement (published by Changbi), A Biography of Yi Hyeon-sang, A Biography of Pak Hon-yong, Yi Gwan-sul, 1902-1950, and volumes on Yi Jae-yu, Yi Tae-jun, and Yi Il-jae.
