Born in 1971 in Gimcheon, North Gyeongsang Province, Gim Junghyeok studied Korean literature (BA) at Keimyung University. After working as a web designer and a reporter for food and travel magazines, he made his literary debut with the publication of short story “Penguin News” in the journal Literature and Society in 2000. Since then, he has been active as a columnist for the magazine Cine 21 and currently broadcasts The Sound of Munjang, the only Internet radio broadcast on literature. Kim Yujong Literary Award, Yi Hyo-seok Literary Award, Munhak Dongne Young Writers’ Literary Award (grand prize), Yi Sang Literary Award, Contemporary Literature Prize, Hwang Sun-won Literary Award. He has authored short story collections Penguin News and A Library of Musical Instruments and illustrated children’s books Pinocchio’s Philosophy 4: What Did Laplace’s Devil Not Know? (published by Changbi) and A Philosophizing Wizard: A Philosophical Children’s Story That Makes Thoughts Grow 2. He also runs a personal homepage at http://www.penguinnews.net.
