The author has garnered nationwide attention with his unique writing that merges classics with an imaginary fantasy world. This time he focuses on Kim Shi-seub’s Geumoshinhwa(The Legend of the Golden Turtle). Zooming in on a four–month-long blank period in our knowledge of Kim Shi-seub’s life, author claims something happened in that period that influenced the outcome of the author’s novel.
He creates characters like Hong, a boy who suffers from memory loss, and Sang-a, the shaman’s daughter who sees the future in her dreams, to complete his story. The story’s perspective alternates between Kim Shi-seub and Hong. The structure is not the only interesting aspect of the story. The two protagonists are frustrated and disheartened by their life’s harsh reality, but come to realize their calling in life, which enables the readers to realize the correlation between the two characters.
