Fruit’s Hut is a picture book that newly retells an old European tale related to Christmas. This story of how little fairies appear before and tenderly befriend Grandma Fruit, who has grown old alone after taking care of needy neighbors all her life, conveys consolation that is heartwarming enough even to melt the winter cold. Author Yoon Jeong-joo, who for long has created stories and drawings beloved of youngsters including Frozen, Frozen, Frozen and the “Wordplay Children’s Poetry” series, has painstakingly rewritten and illustrated an old tale in this volume so that it may be enjoyed by children and adults alike. In an age when Christmas is merely consumed as a commercial occasion, this picture book will serve to remind readers of the true meaning of the holy day such as sharing, consolation, joy, and gratitude.

A baby is discarded in front of a hut. The owner of the home adopts and raises the infant, naming her “Fruit.” In turn, Fruit grows up taking care of the members of her adoptive family. Though Fruit yearns to have a hut of her own, she spends her entire life taking care of babies, elders, and ill people, wandering from home to home. Now aged, she goes into the forest alone when the family whom she has lived with is hit by economic hardships. There, she encounters fairies and… A heartwarming tale and a world of lovable fairies…! Sharing, consolation, joy, and gratitude…! As such, this story will convey to readers the true meaning of Christmas.
