A small island in the West Sea (Yellow Sea), Baekdo is divided into Baekhang, a port that is always busy with tourists, and Okpo, a harbor/quay where small fishing boats are moored. The only path that connects the two villages is no other than a natural baseball playground on the beach…! At a baseball game in early summer, the Okpo team is defeated by the Baekhang team. Moreover, with the disappearance of Lee Poong-gil, the captain, the members of the Okpo team are disheartened… Will they be able to play baseball tomorrow to their hearts’ content, too?
In Tomorrow, Baseball Again, which is Lee Seok-yong’s first children’s storybook, a tale of children living in island villages who love baseball more than anyone else unfolds in an engrossing manner. In this work, the author has certainly fulfilled his wish to write stories that are filled with the warmth of life and set in attractive places. On the lengthwise island of Baekdo, Baekhang is located on the northern tip and is busy with tourists while Okpo, on the southern tip, only has several modest fishing boats come and go. Children at Baekdo Primary School are divided into two teams: the Baekhang Team, led by Han Do-hoon; and the Okpo Team, led by Lee Poong-gil. They are very serious about baseball, burning with a competitive spirit at times and holding back tears when they lose games at other times. It is invigorating to read about youngsters who become a part of nature in seaside villages as seagulls fly by.
In Tomorrow, Baseball Again, baseball serves as a medium for overcoming conflicts in a healthy way. Thus divided, the two teams in Baekhang and Okpo become one under the name of the Baekdo All Stars when they come to play a game against the renowned baseball team at Chungil Primary School. Previously estranged from one another due to feverish competition, children gradually become a true team as they train together.
