When it’s time to change, the Rattle Witch appears and casts a transformation spell. A child who gets upset at the smallest thing; a child who has something to hide from their parents; a child who has grown too tall—ready to change into something wonderful, these children wait for the Rattle Witch who will come to open their doors with a rattle. Byeola is much taller than all of her friends, and recently she has a lot of secrets to hide from her parents. The Rattle Witch appears and tells Byeola she is ready to change, but Byeola is not so sure. In the meantime, all of her friends change into turtles, alligators, and gusts of wind. Even her parents turn into a pair of shoes and a bag.

A child who likes their friends better than their parents; a child who gets upset at the smallest of things; a child who likes to play alone; a child who is taller than everyone else—these are all children who are ready to be changed by the Rattle Witch. Like other kids who have been changed by the Rattle Witch, Byeola, the protagonist of Byeola and the Rattle Witch, is the tallest in her class. But Byeola isn’t sure if she wants to change. To help Byeola decide, the Rattle Witch gives Byeola a special invitation to Naro World, a place that only children who have changed can go. In this place where anything can happen, Byeola discovers what she likes, what she dislikes, and what she wants to do.
