Service to the Truth: The Critical Biography on Rhee Yeung-hui was published in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the late Rhee Yeung-hui, who is called the “Teacher of Thought” and is considered one of the leading intellectuals of our modern history. In this book, Kwon Tae-sun, co-chairman of the Korean Federation for Environmental Movement, who served as editor of Hankyoreh, captures the fruits of his extensive and faithful exploration of Rhee’s life, work, and testimony. This book covers the intellectual and activist journey of Rhee Yeung-hui, who constantly studied and wrote to break the barrier of falsehood in society in spite of being arrested, fired from work, and detained several times. In particular, the writer attempts to write a more complete “critical biography” by highlighting not only his major works, which created a social sensation during the military dictatorship, but also by shedding light on his personal anecdotes and assessments of his own character.
