Beauty Despises Me is comprised of six stories that experiment a broad range in both structure and in plot. Each of stories has its own color and flavor but also has something in common, in that the author extends sympathetic attention to trivialities in life in her distinctive tone and style. Unlike her previous works, which made inquiries on life and existence in the context of family relationships, especially regarding ‘father,’ this book takes on lonely, disoriented characters and focuses on comic or tragic situations in the mundane, with subtle, meticulous descriptions.
